As winter break arrives and the semester comes to a close, I would like to look back and reflect on some of the highlights of this past semester and give everyone an update as to what has been going on with the chapter.
On November 15, 2008, Mu-Rho welcomed 11 new brothers from the Beta-Epsilon pledge class. Brothers Jason Brown, Jared Cartee, Adam Harris, Shelby Hughes, Michael Loftus, Marcus Nichelson, Caleb Pace, Ryan Pond, Jesse Walker, Tyler Walker, and Dustin Warren proved worthy to wear the badge of Kappa Sigma, and we are proud to have them as brothers.
In intramural sports, the flag football team finished off another strong season by making it to the semi-finals of the playoffs only to lose to rival Theta Chi. The volleyball team had an up and down showing this year, but showed off some younger talent that will help as the team graduates a number of players. In the 9-ball tournament, the four-man team of Jake Kurtz, Paul Jamboretz, Drew Irwin, and Aaron Kaberline finished in first place with a dominant performance, and helped the fraternity to a fourth place finish at semester.
Most recently, during our final meeting of the semester on December 7, 2008, the Mu-Rho Chapter saw the passing of the torch with the installation of the 2009 Executive Committee. The new leaders of the chapter are Grand Master Jake Kurtz, Grand Procurator Chad Brucker, Grand Master of Ceremonies Joe Wiederholt, Grand Scribe Chris Belics, and Grand Treasurer Danny Beene.
The chapter also saw its four most experienced members join the alumni ranks. Brothers Mark Baldridge, Drew Brucker, Brent Cavanaugh, and Paul Giljum, all former members of the Executive Committee, will be missed as they move on. Join me in wishing them the best of luck.
The upcoming semester proves to be one of excitement as the chapter approaches its 25th year as a member of the Greek community on the Missouri State University campus. If anyone needs information regarding Founder’s Day/Weekend, please contact our alumni relations chair or any member of our executive committee.
Everyone have a safe holiday and a happy new year.
Semper,
Mike Laskowitz
